Alexander II honors veterans with musical tributes
MACON, Ga. -- Veterans in the community were honored at Alexander II Magnet School on Friday.
Superintendent Dr. Curtis Jones spoke to students about his 20-year experience in the United States Army while the band and choir performed musical tributes, including an armed forces medley.
Tomekia Hutchings is a veteran who attended the ceremony to watch her son play in the band, but said it feels good to be remembered.
"It's just really an honor that people still do think about what we have done to try to make sure the country was safe and a good place to raise our children. It's just overwhelming right now. I just appreciate it," Hutchings said.
Students also wrote poems for the veterans and thanked them for their service.
