Arrest made in Georgia College sexual assault

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. -- The man wanted in connection to a sexual assault on Georgia College's campus was arrested on Thursday.

According to Cindy O'Donnell with Georgia College, Jarvis Javion Lawrence, 20, was arrested around noon and taken to the Baldwin County Law Enforcement Center.

He is accused of holding a woman at gunpoint and assaulting her on Feb. 25 between 2:30 and 3 a.m. behind Bell Hall on the school's campus.

Warrants were issued for Lawrence's arrest on Feb. 27 after he was identified in surveillance video as a suspect.

"Safety of the campus community is a top priority for Georgia College," O'Donnell said in a release. "Although an arrest has been made, GC Public Safety would like to remind everyone to still stay vigilant of their surroundings and always report any suspicious activity on or around campus."

The Baldwin County Sheriff's Office, the Milledgeville Police Department, the Georgia Department of Probation and Parole and the U.S. Marshall’s Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force assisted Georgia College Public Safety with the arrest.

Neither Lawrence nor the victim are students at Georgia College.
