Bibb school board approves budget increase for Northeast/Appling merger project
MACON, Ga. -- The Bibb County Board of Education approved a $4 million budget increase for a project to combine Northeast High School and Appling Middle School.
The budget was previously $45 million, but Jason Daniel, executive director of capital programs for Bibb County Schools said the school district realized they needed more space for classrooms and more square footage.
Daniel said the extra $4 million will be coming out of a fund for a potential new elementary school.
The project involves the merging of the two schools onto one campus and has been a subject of discussion among officials and members of the community for some time.
Daniel said construction for the project was originally supposed to begin this summer but that now it has been pushed back to some time in 2018.
The increase to the project's budget was approved unanimously by the school board Thursday afternoon.
