MACON, Ga. -- Members of the Bibb County Sheriff's Office were out and about Wednesday, passing out water and food to residents of various Macon communities.

Sgt. Linda Howard said the whole area of East Macon has been without power since Tropical Storm Irma came through on Monday, so they wanted to help the community in ways other than simply removing downed trees.

"They don't have anything, so we are supplying them with the necessities until they can get the power back on," Howard said. "We're just doing our job. This is the best way we can give back at this time."

Howard said that throughout the day Wednesday, crews handed out items to residents of Kings Park, the Lakeview Apartments, the Rockland Apartments and several other areas of the city.

She said they picked those areas because they have all seen large trees come down and oftentimes people are blocked in.

She encouraged anyone who can get out to help out their neighbor to do so.
