Brutal crash on I-16 in Macon sends 2 to hospital

A nasty crash on I-16 north in Macon Thursday afternoon has sent multiple people to the hospital and backed up traffic/Perry Smith (WGXA)

MACON, Ga. -- A nasty three-car crash on I-16 north in Macon Thursday afternoon sent multiple people to the hospital and backed up traffic.

It happened around 2:30 p.m. at the I-16 north/I-75 split.

A Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by a 28-year-old woman crashed into a car in front of it, plowing through the back end of the car and resting on top of it. The car then crashed into an 18-wheeler as a result.

The 28-year-old Grand Cherokee driver and 23-year-old driver of the car were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A 1-year-old and 3-year-old were in the back seat of the Grand Cherokee. Officials say they were not injured.

The accident is still under investigation.
