Christmas Eve fire destroys Houston County home
HOUSTON COUNTY, Ga.-- A massive house fire on Christmas Eve now leaves a family homeless.
According to Houston County Fire Chief Jimmy Williams, 911 dispatchers received a call of flames showing through the roof of the home located in the 100 block of Pickworth Lane, just after 7 p.m. on Sunday.
When crews arrived the fire was totally involved, fire fighters were able to get the fire under control in fifteen minutes.
Williams said down winds caused the heat to carry to a neighboring home, causing the siding to melt on the home's garage.
No one was at home when the fire broke out. However, Williams said he has contacted the homeowner who was out of town for the holiday.
No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
