Commissioners deny liquor license for potential bar at location of 2014 deadly shooting
MACON,Ga. -- Macon-Bibb commissioners rejected a liquor license for a new bar.
The Epson's Sports Bar would be located at the former Wings Cafe, which was shut down after a deadly gang-related shooting in 2014.
Sheriff David Davis was at the pre-commission meeting Tuesday. He recommended the approval of the license on one condition: that deputies monitor it.
There seemed to be enough support for the license, but once the vote took place, it was denied.
The county's attorney, Judd Drake, said he wants to argue the vote. He asked to have the motion tabled so he could prepare a legal defense.
Right now, it's unclear if Epson's Sports Bar will open as a restaurant without a liquor license or not.
Commissioners did approve licenses for seven other establishments.
