Eddie Rowland unofficial winner of Monroe County Commission seat, recount expected
MONROE COUNTY, Ga. -- As the result of a runoff election, Eddie Rowland is now the unofficial victor of a Monroe County Commissioner seat.
Residents elected Rowland with a 652-645 vote over Chris Ham.
Rowland will fill the district two seat that opened upon the death Jim Ham. Ham was killed in a wreck on Dec. 2.
Chris Ham received 36 percent of the vote in the March special election to face off against Rowland, who received 28 percent of the special election vote.
Both Ham and Rowland said they took an old-school approach to the race and went door-to-door asking for votes.
Because the votes were within one percent of each other, Ham will be able to request a recount.
Dave Johnston, a representative of Ham, said Ham will request the recount on Wednesday.
