EMA Director's tips for driving in colder temperatures
MACON, Ga. -- Cold weather has made its way to Middle Georgia, and while the Macon-Bibb Emergency Management Agency isn't too concerned, they are prepared.
Spencer Hawkins, Macon-Bibb EMA Director, said he has been in constant contact with the National Weather Service for weather updates.
Right now, Hawkins said the area could see snow flurries during the day on Friday, but they don't expect them to stick to the ground.
On Friday night and Saturday morning, roads have the potential to ice over.
If need be, Hawkins said the Public Works Department is prepared to utilize their salt trucks on the roads.
Hawkins advises people to stay off the roads if possible.
If someone needs to drive, they should be careful on bridges because they ice before roads do.
Drivers should avoid slamming on their brakes if they encounter ice on the road. Hawkins said to gently press on them instead.
Kimberly Larson with the Georgia Department of Transportation said they are monitoring road temperatures heading into the weekend, but they probably will not freeze.
