Exercise key to cold weather joint pain relief
MACON, Ga. -- Weather forecasts predicted the cold temperatures but a lot of senior citizens were able to tell it was coming too thanks to joint pain and arthritis.
Geriatric physician Dr. Dipesh Patel has received calls from his patients over the past few days asking how they can deal with stiffness and joint pain.
He recommends stretching and exercise. Keeping active can help lessen the pain.
"People think when they have more aches and pains they stop doing exercise because they think it's going to flare up more but they have to understand these aches and pains are secondary to the surrounding of the weather and they should continue to do those stretching exercises and other means of exercise," Patel said.
Patel added that you can also take medicine like acetaminophen or Vitamin D to lessen the pain.
