WARNER ROBINS, Ga--Family and friends of the late Sam Poss gathered at the Steak Out restaurant in Warner Robins Saturday to raise money for a scholarship in his name.

Poss went missing on Saturday, October 15, 2016 and his body was found the following Thursday morning.

Saturday a benefit concert, BBQ dinner and silent auction were held in his honor.

All money raised will go to the Sam Poss Memorial Scholarship Fund at Perry High School. Sam's mother Nicole Poss said the scholarship will go to a percussion player from Perry High School. Sam was the captain of the drum line in high school.

Nicole Poss said it's hard to do Mother's day without her son. "But mother's day is tough for people who've lost a child, and it'll be my first one without him," she said.

But she said Saturday's event is helping her get through it, and raising money for something he would've loved.

"That's the part of this that he would love, which makes me so happy, all of this is to send somebody like him, and help somebody get to college just like he wanted to do. So that's the part of all of this that he would love and that's what's great for me," she said.

The scholarship will provide a $1,000 a year to the student chosen while they're in college.
