GBI: Alabama man shot, killed father in Peach County after Florida vacation
PEACH COUNTY, Ga. -- An Alabama man was arrested in Peach County last Tuesday after shooting and killing his father on the side of Interstate-75.
According to GBI Special Agent JT Ricketson, 21-year-old Deonte Young and his father, 40-year-old Daniel Young, began arguing while on vacation in Florida and continued to argue on the way home.
Around 11:40 p.m., Daniel Young told his wife, who was driving, to pull the SUV over on the side of the interstate near mile marker 151.
Deonte Young's brother, girlfriend and three daughters were also in the vehicle.
Ricketson said Daniel Young then approached the driver's side of the vehicle and began a physical altercation with his son.
Deonte Young reportedly shot Daniel Young twice in his upper chest, causing him to fall into the right lane of the interstate.
Deonte Young's girlfriend called 911. The responding officer from the Byron Police Department attempted CPR on Daniel Young but he was pronounced dead just after midnight.
Ricketson said Deonte Young was charged with murder on Thursday morning, but it will be up to the district attorney to decide if he acted in self defense.
