Georgia College hosts piano recital celebrating women's equality
MACON, Ga. -- With Women's History Month coming up in March, Georgia College invited guest pianist Dr. Hyunjung Rachel Chung to present "Got Equality?: Piano Music by Women Composers" Monday night.
Pieces by composers Marianne von Martinez, Cecile Chaminade, Key Ryung Park and Florence Price were played at the event.
"I think it is important because if you go to the musical you can see more female composers. The proportion has changed significantly but their work is really less - how do I say - they get less attention," said Chung.
Dr. Chung is an associate professor at Spelman College in Atlanta and has performed at venues such as Carnegie's Weill Recital Hall in New York, the Grumo Festival in Italy, the Blue Lake Summer Arts Festival in Michigan and the Hawaii International Conference for the Arts and Humanities.
All donations from the event will benefit music scholarships for the Georgia College Department of Music.
