Gov. Deal attends event honoring Navicent Heath trauma care distinction
MACON, Ga. -- Governor Nathan Deal visited Medical Center Navicent Health on Tuesday to congratulate them on their new distinction.
The hospital was designated a Level 1 trauma center by the American College of Surgeons in November and is now the only one in the state with the verification.
Level 1 means in the event of a violent crime or accident the hospital offers the highest level of emergency care available.
Deal is a strong supporter of Georgia's Trauma Care Network and spoke at the event on Tuesday.
"We've come a long way in our trauma network," Deal said. "The trauma commission, since we have given them greater financial support and encouragement to them, they've continued to do good work and we're seeing more and more of our hospitals get interested in trying to elevate the level of their trauma centers. This is a big first today for Macon to be number one by it's physician designated by the surgeons."
The Central location of Navicent Health makes it an even more important piece of the state's trauma network since it's quickly accessible to middle and south Georgia.
