Grandpa gets National Football Championship surprise
MACON, Ga.-- When it comes to surprises this one just may top the list. Amber Bedgood and her grandpa Jack Jack Durden are diehard Georgia Bull Dog fans who headed to Atlanta to see the UGA Dawgs take on Alabama.
The whole thing came as a surprise to grandpa Jack as Amber had a unique way of extending the surprise invitation to the game.
Amber had already gone to see the Dawgs in the Rose Bowl and after returning from her trip, she said she knew she wanted to take her grandpa with her to see the Dawgs play in Atlanta during the National Championship Game.
Amber surprised her grandpa with a handmade ticket holder asking "Will you be my date on January 8th? "
Jack said at first, he didn't quite grasp onto what was actually happening.
"It sank into my thick head that I thought that hey, I'm going to get to go to the game, I couldn't quite grasp it, I couldn't quite comprehend it that I was going to the championship game, which is beyond belief to me" he said.
Jack said he doesn't consider himself a highly emotional person, but his granddaughter Amber's gesture certainly touched his heart.
The Duo enjoyed the game at the club level on the fifty yard line of the Mercedes Benze Stadium as they cheered on their beloved UGA Dawgs.
Jack was born in 1942 which was the last time the University of Georgia Football team played in the Rose Bowl. Amber said she believes it's a sign of good luck, but Jack said he believes there's a bit more to it than simply winning.
"God is not interested in who wins football games, but he's interested in people, coaches, players, fans, he's interested in people. That's what football is about to me" he added.
Amber and her grandpa share a bond well beyond UGA football, but it's just one of the many things that brings the two together every football season.
