Hartley Elem. students lunch, read on the lawn
MACON, Ga. -- Local leaders and the Central Georgia Technical College basketball team visited Hartley Elementary for lunch on the lawn.
At the event, they read to students and enjoyed lunch with them.
Favorites like "Clifford the Big Red Dog" and "Five Minutes of Peace" were read. Two of the readers said it's good to reinforce the importance of reading and helping kids learn new things.
"I think this is really something as a result of instilling basic core values into our students, of which literacy is definitely one," said Commissioner Larry Schlesinger.
"The funniest part about it is basically enjoying, having fun with kids, making sure they understand and making sure they learn something new everyday," said CGTC player G'torria Swinton.
This is the fourth year Hartley Elementary has held the event.
