MACON, Ga. - A house on the corner of Edgewood Ave. and Calhoun St. went up in flames Thursday night.

As firefighters were battling the blaze inside, the roof caved in.

Sgt. Steven Wesson, arson investigator of the Macon-Bibb Fire Dept., says three firefighters were injured, but they're all well and at home.

They were on the porch when the roof of the porch collapsed on them, sustaining minor injuries.

Wesson says all three were sent to the hospital where they were checked out and sent home with no worries.

The exact cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.

However, Wesson says the department has received multiple calls to the same house in the last couple of weeks for smoke coming out of the house.

Upon arrival most times, there was a homeless person squatting there and asleep with a warming fire. Firefighters would put out the fire and send them on their way.

No one was inside the home last night.
