Local insurance agent to appeal fraud charges
MACON, Ga. -- A Macon insurance agent has a hearing scheduled on September 22 for insurance fraud.
Charles W. O'Neal, Sr., 71, turned himself in to the Bibb County Sheriff's Office on July 14 and was arrested and charged with two counts of insurance fraud and one count of theft by deception. According to the Sheriff's Office, O'Neal received payments from several clients to purchase surety bonds but he used the almost $60,000 for his personal benefit instead.
The Georgia Department of Insurance is taking action to revoke his agent license to prohibit him from transacting insurance business in Georgia. O'Neal is appealing the department and his hearing will be in Atlanta.
The department asks that anyone who purchased insurance from O'Neal and finds that they do not have legitimate coverage to call the Consumer Hotline at 800-656-2298.
