UPDATE: Deputies investigating case of man found dead in abandoned home as a homicide

MACON, Ga. -The Bibb County Sheriff's Office is investigating a suspicious death after a man was found dead in a Macon home on Houston Ave. Wednesday afternoon.

Coroner Leon Jones confirmed that the man is 51-year-old Jeffrey McKuhen.

According to Sgt. Linda Howard, the deputies originally responded to a call of a person having been shot.

Officials say they found the body of a white man in his 50s or 60s. He was pronounced dead just after 4:30 p.m.

Sgt. Howard said that when deputies arrived at the scene, however, it was unclear how McKuhen passed or if he had actually sustained a gunshot wound.

She confirmed that the sheriff's office is investigating this case as a homicide and are calling it a suspicious death.

According to Coroner Lonnie Miley, an autopsy is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 11.

Deputies were told by someone familiar with the home that the homeless often filter in and out of the residence.

The case remains under investigation.
