Man indicted for assaulting officer, resisting arrest after traffic stop


MACON, Ga. -- A man was indicted in Bibb County Court Tuesday for assaulting an officer after driving with a suspended license.

Derrick DeWayne Hopkins was indicted on one count each of:

  • driving while license suspended
  • making a false statement
  • aggravated assault on peace officer
  • obstruction of an officer
  • interference with government property

According to court records, Hopkins was stopped on Feb. 19 for driving with a suspended license and gave officers a false name.

He then hit the officer and resisted arrest, damaging the officers uniform in the process.
