Man shot during attempted robbery in west Macon

MACON, Ga. -- Bibb Sheriff's deputies are investigating an attempted robbery which left a man recovering with gunshot wounds early Tuesday morning.

Investigators say it happened just before 5 a.m. when the victim, Lewis Williams, 52, of Macon was walking on Roff Avenue near Hendley Street. Three men in a sports car approached him and demanded money.

When Williams told the men that he did not have any cash, they began shooting at him.

He was struck in the back, arm and leg and taken to the Medical Center at Navicent health where at last check he's listed in stable condition.

Investigators sat there is no further description of the suspects. No one else was hurt.
