Read United program looks for volunteers to tutor children
MACON, Ga. -- A Middle Georgia reading program needs the community's help.
The Read United program needs tutors to help elementary-aged students practice their skills.
Thursday night's Books N Bingo session had potential volunteers playing for literary prizes.
Danielle Grisamore with United Way said getting kids reading on grade level is important.
"The United Way of Central Georgia started an initiative called Read United to help kindergarten through third graders become stronger leaders because by third grade if you are not on grade level your chances of success in life plummets drastically," Grisamore said.
She added that Read United gives tutors all the materials needed to help students.
