School district responds to rumors of threat at Rutland High School
MACON, Ga. -- Macon authorities are investigating rumors of a possible threat at Rutland High School.
According to Stephanie Hartley of the Bibb County School District, parents and students have called and posted on social media about rumors of a possible incident occurring at the school on Thursday.
Hartley said that those rumors vary and are not all the same.
She said that the school and campus police have investigated the rumors and have not found any credible threat or source. She said the Bibb County Sheriff's Office is also aware of the situation and is helping to monitor and assess any potential threats.
Rutland High School posted a message to their Facebook page Wednesday addressing the rumors that reads in part, "We want to reassure students, parents and stakeholders that we are aware of this rumor and have conducted a thorough investigation throughout the week to determine its credibility."
"At this time, officials have yet to find a credible threat or source to the rumor. We appreciate your understanding, and assure you that we will remain transparent with stakeholders should there be any updates."
