Students flock to The Museum of Aviation for annual robotics competition
ROBINS AFB., Ga. -- Saturday students from across the state of Georgia flocked to the Museum of Aviation to compete in the 13th Annual Central Georgia FIRST Lego League .
'FIRST' stands for 'For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology'.
About 35 teams competed Saturday.
Each of the students built robots with LEGOS.
Then they programmed the robots to perform certain tasks.
According to Executive Director, Wesley Fondal, the students have to come up with a project to solve a problem and find an innovative solution.
"We're looking at these students to be our next scientists and engineers," Said Fondal. "So this is their second round of competition so this is the cream of the crop coming to the competition. They've competed once in a regional competition, so they're coming from across the state to show us what they've got in their their research."
Each year's competition consists of a challenge with a different theme. The theme for this year's challenge was hydrodynamics. Howard Middle School in Bibb County is just one of several teams to win an award at Saturday competition.
They are now headed to the state tournament.
