Telfair Co. woman doused with rubbing alcohol, set on fire

JACKSONVILLE, Ga. -- A Telfair County woman is in critical condition after being severely burned.

According to a release from Telfair County Sheriff Chris Steverson, police responded to 39 Roberson Town Lane around 1 a.m. on March 18.

Barbara Williams, 56, was found with burns on her legs, abdomen, chest and head.

The release states that investigators believe her boyfriend, 56-year-old James Michael Jones, had been drinking when he poured rubbing alcohol on Williams then set her on fire. They also believe he failed to help her once she fled into a neighbor's yard.

Williams was flown via Air Evac to a burn unit in Augusta according to the release.

Jones was arrested on Aggravated Assault and Aggravated Battery charges and remains in the Telfair County Jail.
