THURSDAY EVENING UPDATE: Winter weather potential for Middle Georgia going down
MACON, Ga. - If you're hoping for winter weather in Middle Georgia, you're likely going to be disappointed.
As new data comes into the WGXA Weather Center, it's looking more likely that Middle Georgia will see a cold rain Friday with most winter weather staying closer to Atlanta. Here's how are weather team expects the event to play out:
FRIDAY MORNING: Snow in Atlanta and along I-85. A cold rain for Middle Georgia.
FRIDAY AFTERNOON: Precipitation tapering off statewide. Temperatures in Middle Georgia should be in the low 40s.
FRIDAY NIGHT: A few showers are expected to develop. There's a small chance of some snow or sleet mixing in northwest of Macon.
SATURDAY MORNING: Any precipitation will taper off quickly. Temperatures will be in the low to mid 30s, with the coldest weather expected around 9 a.m. and northwest of Macon. Those areas could see a few slicks spots from leftover ponding on roadways.
Confidence levels are going up that a significant winter weather event is not likely in Middle Georgia and impacts, if any, will be limited.
Expect continued cold weather in Middle Georgia into early next week. Overnight lows will be in the 20s both Sunday and Monday mornings. Warmer weather will move in Monday afternoon but another quick cool down is expected the middle of next week.
