Two killed in Baldwin County collision with tired driver

BALDWIN COUNTY, Ga. -- Two people were killed Sunday night in an accident after authorities believe a driver dozed off behind the wheel.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, a GMC Yukon collided with a Nissan Sentra on Georgia State Route 49 near Pettigrew Road just before 8 p.m. Sunday.

The driver of the Yukon, which was carrying six people, crossed the center line into the path of the Sentra, which was carrying two people.

The two people in the Sentra were both pronounced dead at the scene. The victims have been identified as Sharon Jackson, 47, of Milledgeville and Kalvin Thomas, 48, of Macon.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, authorities believe at this time that the 17-year-old driver of the Yukon was fatigued and dozed off, causing him to leave his lane of travel and collided with the Sentra.

This accident is still under investigation and charges are pending.
