Two Macon gun heist suspects sentenced
MACON, Ga. -- Two of the four men who pleaded guilty last year to the 2013 theft of 17 semi-automatic rifles from a Macon Bass Pro Shops were sentenced Wednesday.
Kenneth Atwater, 35, was given 45 months in prison and Jabari Walters, 24, was given 48 months in prison for their roles in the heist.
On September 29, 2013, authorities say Atwater and Walters, along with two other men, broke through a glass door of the store using a crowbar and stole the guns then drove to the Atlanta area.
One of the stolen AR-15s was recovered later during a traffic stop in Atlanta.
Walters's brother, Tabari Walters, 24, was sentenced to 33 months and the fourth co-defendant, Dante Thomas, 32, was sentenced five years in prison for their roles in the theft on March 14.
Authorities say that the men used Thomas' car to get away from the scene.
Walters, Atwater and their co-defendants were each ordered to pay $14,619.83 in restitution to Bass Pro Shops.
