Weather update: More rain Friday, then cold!
More rain is in the mix for Friday, and could include a strong storm or two.
Light rain that came ahead of an approaching frontal boundary is transitioning out of the Mid State, but there is another line of showers coming in behind it.
WGXA's meteorologists are watching this second band of rain closely. If portions of Middle Georgia clear out enough and see some sunshine before it arrives, it could add enough energy to the atmosphere to fuel a strong storm or two.
The timing of this second round of rain will be from noon to the mid afternoon. If an embedded storm is able to tap into any instability, there is potential for gusty winds and heavy rain.
Otherwise, expect this system to have pushed through the area by 5 or 6 this evening, and a blast of dry arctic air to set up shop. Temperatures will rapidly fall overnight. Coupled with 20-25 mile per hour winds, it will likely feel like the low 20's or upper teens on Saturday morning.
The following week looks cold as well, with a slow warming trend as early as next Friday. Warmer weather looks to return after that.
