WEDNESDAY EVENING UPDATE: Severe weather possible Friday
MACON, Ga. - An approaching weather system could bring severe weather to Middle Georgia on Friday.
A cold front that will move into the area Friday will produce a line of showers and storms. They are expected to move into Middle Georgia during the afternoon hours.
The setup for this system looks to feature minimal instability to produce thunder and lightning, but there is spin in the atmosphere which could produce damaging wind and tornadoes. It's important to note that severe weather can happen without thunder and lightning.
Behind this weather system is another arctic blast. We don't expect this cool down to be as intense as the start of the year, but starting this weekend, lows will return to the 20s with afternoon highs in the 40s. That trend will last through much of next week.
While the springtime months are the most active for severe weather in Middle Georgia, January is responsible for 3% of severe weather reports in Middle Georgia.
