WEDNESDAY MORNING UPDATE: Snow possible in Middle Georgia today
MACON, Ga -- A winter weather advisory has been issued for Wilcox, Dodge, Laurens, Johnson, Telfair, Montgomery, Toombs and Treutlen counties.
Snow accumulation is possible today in all of these areas and potentially even further north. There is also a chance for sleet during the early morning before the snow arrives.
Light snow is expected in the advised area with accumulation between one and two inches with some isolated areas seeing close to three inches of snow. Snowfall could start as early as this morning, but our best chance to see snow move through the area will be during the early afternoon.
Even though there is a chance of seeing an inch of snow for southeastern Georgia, it is not a guarantee. It is much more likely that we see between 1/4-1/2" of snow mainly because the snowfall will be light for a majority of the afternoon.
Slippery road conditions are expected during the commute this morning. Be prepared for reduced visibilities during snowfall. Snow covered roads will increase the potential for black ice formation Wednesday night due to the temperatures falling fast.
In Macon and Warner Robins snow is not expected, but there is something right around the corner to watch. Wind speeds starting this afternoon could top out around 15 mph. Wind gusts starting tomorrow morning could range from 20-25 mph. If you pair this wind with our already frigid temperatures we will see wind chill values in the lower teens.
