African American poetry experienced at the Tubman
MACON, Ga. -- Citizens gathered inside a classroom at the Tubman Museum and learned about the poetry African Americans performed in the past.
People sand and read the poems at the African American Poetry Experience. Local Theater star Charles Davis sang songs that slaves used to sing.
Marketing Director Melanie Byas said it's important to look back at the history and the struggles faced.
"It's real important to bring awareness of the struggle of the civil rights movement and what Dr. King really did in leading this county to another level" Byas said.
Bias hopes the even was an experience for everyone who went.
