7 hikers found in Georgia mountains after chopper spots them
CHATSWORTH, Ga. (AP) — Search crews have found seven people reported missing after a hike in the remote Cohutta Wilderness Area of the north Georgia mountains.
FOX 5 reports the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and other agencies had been searching for the group Monday, after they were last seen at Jacks River Falls.
Tennessee's West Polk County Volunteer Fire and Rescue reported on social media that the lost hikers were spotted by a Georgia DNR helicopter late Monday morning.
Crews were being sent to pick up the three adults and four children.
The heavily wooded and mountainous Cohutta Wilderness Area near the Georgia-Tennessee line is among the most remote areas of Georgia.
