ATLANTA, Ga. -- Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal has lifted the mandatory evacuation order for six Georgia counties.

The decision comes after the Georgia Department of Transportation inspected 49 impacted bridges and found that they were safe.

However, residents of those coastal areas are encouraged to wait to return home until their local jurisdictions have given the all clear.

The executive order to lift the mandatory evacuation allows local authorities to determine when residents can return home and give guidance.
