Georgia Southern cancels classes through Tuesday due to Hurricane Irma
STATESBORO, Ga. -- Georgia Southern University's Statesboro campus will close and classes are canceled Friday, Sept. 8 through Tuesday, Sept. 12 due to the potential impacts of Hurricane Irma.
In a statement posted to its website on Thursday, the university said it made the decision to suspend classes and operations based upon the National Hurricane Center's latest projection for the storm.
Georgia Southern sponsored events are also canceled Friday through Tuesday. The Herty Advanced Materials Development Center and Coastal Georgia Center are closed through Wednesday, Sept. 13.
The Zach S. Henderson Library will close at 8 a.m. Friday. However, the student residence halls will remain open.
The statement on the school's website continued that it is unclear when classes and normal business operations will resume.
