3rd-inning explosion paces Mercer to road sweep

LEXINGTON, VA -- Seven runs in the third inning blew the game wide open as Mercer completed a road sweep at VMI with a 17-5 win Saturday afternoon.

For the third straight game, JT Thomas went yard in addition to driving in 13 runs for the series including six on Saturday. Hunter Bening and Ryan Hagan went deep for the second straight day while Jackson Ware added a solo shot in the sixth inning.

Kevin Coulter earned his fourth win of the year going 5 2/3 innings with five strikeouts.

Mercer (32-6, 11-1) return to action Tuesday night at Georgia Tech.
