Bears roll Toccoa Falls for win number one
MACON, Ga. -- After a nine-point loss to UCF in their season-opener on Friday, the Mercer Bears men's basketball team bounced back in a big way on Sunday with a 110-43 win over Toccoa Falls College.
The Bears started off slow but quickly picked up the pace racing out to a 57-19 lead at the half and pacing themselves the rest of the way.
Guard Ria'n Holland, on his birthday, led the team in scoring with 16 points shooting 60 percent from the field. Demetre Rivers and Ethan Stair each had 12 points.
An easy win for the Bears as 13 players logged valuable minutes and points in the blow out win. Coach Bob Hoffman was happy with what he saw out of his team in their home opener.
"There were moments where we looked really good," said Hoffman after the win. "We passed the ball and made that second extra pass that you got to do to be a high level team. If that becomes a hallmark of this squad then I think we're going to shoot a really high percentage."
The Bears totaled 28 assists and 14 steals against the Screaming Eagles while shooting 55 percent from the field.
Mercer returns to action on Tuesday when they host Jackson State at Hawkins Arena.
