Buehler developing into a leader for Mercer Football
Isaiah Buehler has turned into one of the best defensive lineman in the Southern Conference. But, it hasn't come without its fair share of bumps and bruises. "Its not as much of a shock anymore. I feel like I'm more prepared. Take care of my body better. I'm in the film room more often. I've been down there with Coach Dunn doing some extra work after practice."
The senior from Florida has gotten better with each season for the Bears. However, he says he's still got some improving to do. "I'm trying to do some more power stuff and do some more speed stuff. That's where the extra work after practice comes in handy. Having Coach Dunn and Coach Baker on my butt all the time definitely helps."
Buehler is one of the many seniors returning for Mercer. A group their head coach says is needed now more than ever. "Really good player and a really talented guy, but it gets to a certain point where he's got to be our guy as far as leadership is concerned. He's taken a hold of our defense and really got those guys running to the ball and doing the things they need to do" said head coach Bobby Lamb.
Isaiah has risen up to the occasion as a leader. Picking up where others have left off. "Missing guys like Staunt, and missing guys like Lee, and EJ being on the sidelines because of his knee. I've started to step up and be more vocal. Sort of gaining my sea legs and just talking and being comfortable with those conversations and keeping guys accountable."
The energy guy on defense has seen his fair share of ups and downs for the Bears, and he wants to see that turn into something big in 2018. "Its little things that turn into big things and you have to do those things consistently all the time. That's why teams like Wofford, The Citadel, and Chat are so good."
