Coulter dominates as Bears sweep Samford
MACON, Ga. -- Mercer head coach Craig Gibson has said that getting a sweep in college baseball is not easy. That may be true, but Gibson's Bears are making it look easy after notching their fourth three-game sweep of the season with Sunday's series-finale 7-1 win over Samford.
Mercer (28-6, 8-1) were led by an outstanding performance from Kevin Coulter on the mound. The right-hander went seven and two-thirds innings, allowed three hits, one earned run and struck out four en route to his third win of the season.
At the plate, Ryan Hagan continued his hot weekend going 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Danny Edgeworth also played a big role finishing 1-for-2 with a double and three RBIs.
Entering Sunday, the Bears were second in the nation in total wins (27), one win behind No. 6 Texas Tech. Depending on the result of the Red Raiders' game against Baylor Sunday afternoon, Mercer could enter next week tied with Tech for the most wins in college baseball.
Mercer takes on Georgia State in Atlanta on Tuesday.
