MACON, GA -- Austin Cox threw six innings surrendering one earned run while striking out nine batters as Mercer took the series over Samford with a 9-6 win Saturday afternoon at OrthoGeorgia Park.

Cox avoided trouble early striking Samford's Anthony Mulrine with the bases loaded to escape the jam. Cox improved to 3-1 on the year.

Mercer dominated at the plate as usual scoring nine runs on eight hits. Hunter Bening highlighted another solid afternoon at the plate for the Bears with a three-run homer in the fifth inning.

Charlie Madden hit his 14th dinger of the season which is good enough for second in all of DI college baseball.

The Bears (27-6, 7-1) wrap up the series with the Bulldogs Sunday afternoon at 1 at OrthoGeorgia Park.
