MACON, GA -- Austin Cox knows the baseball scene in Macon very well.

After a standout sophomore season on the mound for Craig Gibson's Mercer Bears, the First Presbyterian Day School alum experienced a brief stint in the Coast Plain League, the same league bringing a team to Macon next summer.

The Coastal Plain League is a college summer ball league with 16 different teams spread throughout the Southeast.

As a member of the Edenton Steamers, Cox was impressed with the league's daily grind.

"It's a great league," Cox said. "It's competitive day in and day out. There's guys that will have a chance to make the next step from college. It's a fun league."

The new baseball team will play at the historic Luther Williams Field, which Cox says has a special vibe to it.

"I remember playing their in high school when FPD played Westside," Cox said. "It's just a lot of history there so it's a cool place to be."

Cox is entering his junior season with the Bears. During his sophomore year, Cox led Mercer with 91 strikeouts and 4-2 record.
