Mercer women's basketball pushes win streak to 11
SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- It has been 47 days since the Mercer women's basketball team has lost a game. Today, the Bears ensured that streak would at least make it to 49 by beating the Wofford Bulldogs in their Southern Conference opener.
Keke Calloway scored another career high -- her third in the past three weeks -- with 34 points. Calloway also added five steals and seven 3-pointers.
"She was in her zone today," head coach Suzie Gardner said. "She was able to shoot the ball well and get to the rim. KeKe has become a well-rounded player and she also played exceptional on defense as well."
Kahlia Lawrence was recently named the SoCon player of the month for December after also winning the award for the month of November. She would put up 13 points and four rebounds against Wofford.
By defeating Wofford, Mercer has improved to 10-1 all-time against Wofford, and 9-0 since Gardner became head coach.
The Bears will look to keep things rolling in their SoCon schedule on Saturday when they travel to Greenville, S.C. to play Furman.
Their next home game is Jan. 18 versus the University of North Carolina-Greenville.
