Riley leads Mercer to blowout win over Jacksonville in season opener

MACON, GA -- Mercer redshirt freshman QB Kaelan Riley did not disappoint in his college debut.

Riley found the end zone five times and the Bears built a 27-0 lead at the break en route to a 48-7 opening victory over Jacksonville Thursday night at Five Star Stadium.

Riley finished 18-26 for 206 yards with three touchdowns and an interception. The freshman also carried the ball 10 times for 54 yards with two rushing touchdowns.

CJ Leggett looked strong in his debut in the backfield carrying the ball six times for 54 yards and a touchdown. Junior TE Sam Walker hauled in five catches for 47 yards with two circus touchdown catches as well.

The Bears defense looked dominant holding the Dolphins to 241 total yards while forcing three turnovers.

Mercer returns to action next Saturday at home against Wofford at Five Star Stadium.
