Smart says the QB job is Eason's to lose
HOOVER, Al. -- The quarterback battle wages on in Athens, but Georgia head coach Kirby Smart named his starting quarterback for fall camp at SEC Media Days on Tuesday. Smart says sophomore Jacob Eason will be the team's starter coming into the season.
"Jake Fromm will need to do something to beat Jacob Eason out," said Smart.
Eason started 12 of 13 games last season for the Dawgs throwing for 2,430 yards and 16 touchdowns as a true freshman.
"Will Jake Fromm push Jacob Eason? He already has," said Smart. "I think he's made Jacob respect the game and know the ins and outs of your play is really important. It's really important that (Fromm) pushes (Eason) to become a better player this fall camp."
Fromm impressed during the G-Day spring game in April throwing for 277 yards and two touchdowns in his Georgia debut.
Georgia opens up their season on September 2 against Appalachian State.
