Baseball and softball season underway in Jones County
Across Middle Georgia, baseball and softball season is underway for teams at the high school, college and professional level.
Youth leagues have taken a backseat to the higher levels early on, but that all came to an end in Gray. Baseball and softball season began for youth teams in the Jones County National League early Saturday morning.
The teams were introduced for the first time and all played two games throughout the day. The games weren't the only attraction of the day as a silent auction, raffle drawings and inflatables headlined the event as well.
"We start putting all of this stuff together in the October, November time frame," said Jones County National League President Robby Cribb. "We had a great day today. The weather helped out. There's over 600 kids here."
Plenty of work went into putting on the opening ceremony for the league, and it was all worth it at the end of the day.
"This is for the kids," Cribb said. "That's why we do what we do."
