Mary Persons loses rematch to Blessed Trinity in semifinal
FORSYTH, Ga. -- Last year, Mary Person and Blessed Trinity met in the GHSA 3A quarterfinals, and the Bulldogs pulled away with a 28-27 victory to reach the semifinals.
What a difference a year can make.
Tonight the Bulldogs fell to the Titans 28-7 at Dan Pitt Stadium after a rough offensive showing. Last week running back Quen Wilson ran for 213 yards and four touchdowns against Jefferson, but had a much tougher time finding holes in the Titans' defense.
Mary Persons had difficult moving the ball all night long, with the lone score coming from quarterback J.T. Hartage to receiver Deadrek Alford in the final seconds of the first half. That drive was set up by a Bralen Harvey interception to give the Bulldogs some momentum. Aside from that turnover, the Bulldog defense didn't have many answers for Titans' quarterback Jake Smith.
Blessed Trinity came into this game having knocked off one of the top teams in the state when it took down undefeated Cartersville in the second round. The Titans have been averaging over 31 points per game in the playoffs, and will look to take that momentum into Mercedes-Benz Stadium next week.
