Lady Royals focused heading into AA semifinals
Early on in the season, Jenny Manning's Bleckley County Lady Royals played against big schools. The Royals lost most of those games to teams in 4A and 5A but they became battle tested in those defeats.
Winners of six in a row, the Region 3-AA Champions are just one game away from their first state title game appearance. The region championship was a nice feather in the Lady Royals' cap but they're hoping it's not their last chapter.
"We had our eyes on a bigger prize," said Senior Guard Fellesia Young. "We knew what we wanted from day one. We wanted a region championship but we seeking to get more than that."
After ending the regular season on a four-game losing streak, the Royal found their stride just in time for the postseason.
"We've picked up our speed," said Junior Forward Jahnaria Brown. "We've moved the ball more, learned to read each other, things like that."
Since then, the Royals have been red hot marching all the way to the Final Four. Bleckley County will meet Rabun County at Georgia College's Centennial Center at 6 p.m. Saturday.
