Wilkinson County knocks off Montgomery Co. for 3rd straight title
MACON, Ga. -- The Wilkinson County boys basketball team defeated Montgomery County, 71-68, in the Public A State Championship game on Wednesday.
Its the program's 10th title overall and third in a row.
The Warriors were led by Jaylen Lamar who had 22 points.
"A program like Wilkinson County -- year in and year out -- will have a chance to be successful and compete for a state championship" said head coach Aaron Geter.
"I'm very thankful to play for the Wilkinson Co. Warriors -- the best team in the country. I wouldn't trade it for nothing. It just feels great" said senior Tylan Grable.
"It was a first in school history and for me and my class to be able to do it, it's special," senior Devin Jones said.
Grable chipped in with a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds. Jones also got in the action with 12 points.
The Warriors shot 50 percent from the field and 50 percent from 3-point range. They had 36 points in the paint and 21 off the bench.
Wilkinson Co. finishes the year at 26-6. They have now won five out of the last six Public A State Boys championships.
