Wilkinson County repeats, ousts Calhoun County for 9th state title
ATHENS, Ga. -- Someone call Drake, because the Wilkinson County Warriors just went back to back. The Warriors beat the Calhoun County Cougars 66-53 to win their second straight public A state title, and their ninth championship overall.
The Warriors used great games from Tylan Grable and Clarence Jackson, each with 15 points and double-digit rebounds, to get past the Cougars. Calhoun's Rashuan Williams scored a game-high 25 points.
Trailing by five at halftime, Wilco outscored the Cougars 20-6 in the third quarter to regain control. A nine-point lead early in the fourth diminished to one for Wilco but the champions didn't fold hitting multiple big shots to regain momentum.
Wilkinson County finishes the season 25-7.
