Key games to watch for the 2017 high school football season

MACON, GA -- With spring practice recently wrapping up, it's time to start thinking about the start of the Middle Georgia High School Football season.

The official kickoff for Georgia High School Football begins August 17 in the Corky Kell Classic at Mercer University. Three area teams compete in the opening night as Jones County takes on Houston County while Mary Persons matches up with Lee County.

Five area teams advanced to the semifinal round in the GHSA playoffs with Macon County standing as the lone state champion. John Milledge Academy took home the title in the GISA AAA playoffs.

Here are the key games for each week for the 2017 season:

Week 1: Northside vs. Warner Robins (Mac)
Week 2: Westside at Southwest
Week 3: Warner Robins at Peach County
Week 4: HOCO vs. Veterans (Freedom Field)
Week 5: Peach County at Mary Persons
Week 6: Northeast at Bleckley County
Week 7: Macon County at Northside
Week 8: Twiggs County at Stratford
Week 9: Southwest at Dublin
Week 10: FPD at Tattnall
Week 11: HOCO at Northside
Week 12: Jackson at Peach County
